Chardonnay from the Edna Valley is known for its heady tropical aromas and flavors, and our choice to ferment on grape solids, employ malolactic fermentation and extended sur lee aging all contribute to create a wine with tremendous richness and depth of flavor. Fermented entirely in French oak barrels, this wine crosses the broadly flavored characteristics found in white burgundy with the layers of fruit available to producers in California. Complex and firmly structured, this is our flagship wine.
Our Pinot Noir, produced from fruit harvested at one of California’s coolest vineyard sites, (Laetitia Vineyard) is likewise an example of the cross between the complexity and elegance found in great wines of the Burgundy and the outright power of California fruit. In this wine, Black Cherry and spice are framed with notes of vanilla, tea, and toast. With each vintage, we select a handful of barrels that demonstrate particularly expressive characteristics, and create our very limited ‘Dionysus’ Pinot Noir. By blending from only our favorite barrels, we are able to create a wine that offers the most intense expression of both the vineyard and variety.
We also produce an award winning Pinot Grigio that is sourced from the Los Alamos Vineyard in Santa Barbara County. Fermented entirely in stainless steel, this wine is reminiscent of the great Friulian Pinot Grigio’s of northern Italy. Concentrated fresh melon and stone fruit, balanced with firm acidity and an intriguing minerality make this, in our opinion, one of the best examples of the variety produced in the new world.
From the warmer growing area of Paso Robles and in very small quantities, we produce both Petite Sirah and late-harvest Zinfandel. The Petite Sirah is nothing but new world in style, with layers of ripe, concentrated fruit, firm tannins, and a healthy serving of spice. The late-harvest Zinfandel too is a big-bodied wine, showing strong raisin and fig flavors surrounded by an elegant mouthfeel that leads to an everlasting finish.
